Variety selected by the Institut National de Recherche Agronomique (INRA) in France. It is larger than the Golden Russet, with a very pleasant, sweet flavour. The tree is hardier than the Golden Russet. It is moderately vigorous and is considered partially resistant to scab in France. In Quebec, Reinette Russet® is considered to be scab-resistant. Flowering occurs at the same time as the McIntosh and the medium-sized fruit ripens one week after the Cortland. Its complex flavour makes it a favourite for cider production.
